Dashing

Dashing is a method of movement that's usually regarded as Celeste's main gimmick. Dashing is performed by hitting the button(s) bound to "Dash" in the Controller Config or Keyboard Config. Many modded maps remove this function, such as the Madeline Goes to the 2020 Presidential Election series, and even vanilla toys with it a bit. s opposed to the single dash you have through the start of the game, Core removes the function of recharging your dash on the ground requiring a Dash Refill to recharge, and Forsaken City has a special Winged Golden berry that requires beating the chapter dashless. Dashes give 35 speed.

Dash Frame Timings

Frame	Information	Notes and Effects
1	Non-moving frame
2, 3, 4	Freeze frames	The in-game timer is paused during these frames.
5-9	Initial dash frames
10-14	Able to regain dash	This is the frame period where you need to jump from a Wavedash or Extended Hypers to regain your dash.
15	Dash exit frame	You are no longer in stdash and can land to keep speed gained from an Ultra.
16-21	Dash attack remains	Dashing into things like a Dash Block to break it, or a Dream Block to go through it still works, although you aren't technically dashing anymore.
22	Dash effects no longer possible	Anything that happens as a result of a dash aside from Ultras are no longer possible as of this frame.
